ABEOKUTA—The Divisional Police Officer, Kemta Division of the Ogun State State Police command, who allegedly assaulted a woman that subsequently lost her two-month pregnancy, has been removed and summoned by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali.
The state commissioner in a text message to our correspondent on the matter yesterday , wrote: “the DPO involved had been removed and moved to the state headquarters.”
The commissioner while reacting to the matter said he got to know about it from media reports.
He, however, confirmed that he had called for a discreet investigation into the incident by a team headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Investigation and Intelligence Department.
CP Ali said: “I promise to make our findings public at the conclusion of the case.”
The DPO, Amos Samuel, had allegedly assaulted 37-year-old Risikat on Saturday leading to her losing two-month pregnancy.
Contacted, her husband, Tunde Bamidele, said he had written a statement on Wednesday at the state headquarters of the command at Eleweran, Abeokuta of what transpired between last Friday and Sunday.
According to him, “in the statement, I chronicled how my wife lost her pregnancy and our ordeal in the hand of the policemen at Kemta Division of the Ogun State police command.
“One of the Deputy Commissioners was assigned to the case. I had written the statement and submitted to him.”
Risikat’s husband said after he had submitted the statement, two policemen were detailed to follow him to Kemta Division, where the incident happened, to retrieve the case file.
He said the policemen were also detailed to follow him to state hospital, Ijaiye, in Abeokuta where his wife is currently receiving attention, and they took statement from her.
“I am talking to you from Kemta Police Station, the deputy commissioner in charge of the case had asked two policemen to accompany me to retrieve the case file on the incident.
“They (policemen) also followed me to the State Hospital at Ijaiye where my wife is currently receiving treatment, and also took her statement.”
Our correspondent gathered that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, was said to have read the report and sent signals to the state CP to investigate the matter.
